ACTION ALERT: Suwayda, Syria

Druze & Christian Populations Face Deadly Assault

Where Syria President Ahmed al-Sharaa’s Forces Mobilize, Death & Destruction Follows

The southern Syrian city of Suwayda has been enduring a wave of attacks from Islamist militias turned Syrian national army. Dozens are dead and churches have been burned.

President Ahmed al-Sharaa’s troops are attacking Druze and Christian community members and their institutions, including the Saint Michael Church pictured here.

OFWI’s sources on the ground report that starting Sunday and continuing over the past 48 hours, the Syrian forces began firing in the community, killing dozens and leaving a path of destruction in their wake.

The Israeli military responded to protect the Druze community, but the local Christian community has no military defence capabilities to speak of.

Islamist militias and forces allied to President al-Sharaa have morphed into the Syrian Army, and continued their campaign of violent attacks designed to instil fear across Druze, Christian, Alawites and other minority populations in the war-torn country.

The latest attack comes one week after OFWI released “Syria’s New Chapter: A Perilous Dawn for Minorities Under Al-Sharaa's Rule”, ringing the alarm on the deteriorating human rights conditions across Syria.

The international community has begun lifting sanctions on the Republic of Syria, emboldening President al-Sharaa’s government and his Islamic extremist allies to continue their violent campaign across the country.

ACT NOW:

The international community must act now to prevent the needless loss of life and help Syria find a lasting peace after the fall of the Assad regime.

Write your Member of Parliament, Member of Congress, Senator, or elected representative where you live and ask the following:

  • Druze, Christian and Alawites are dying and governments ending sanctions will make things worse.

  • International pressure can work to save lives and improve conditions on the ground.

  • The fall of the Assad regime has left a power vacuum being filled by radical Islamist forces. If left uncheck, not only will more bloodshed follow, but the threat to global security will inevitably follow.
