Saving Nafisa

Dear OFWI Supporters,

If you will, take a second and imagine yourself in someone else's shoes.

You're going about your day. Walking down the street, or maybe it's down an aisle at the grocery store. You're holding your daughter's hand as you make your way about your business.

Now imagine you're confronted by a man who demands to sleep with you. When you obviously resist and say no, he throws acid on your face. You're in excruciating pain and your life will never be the same. To make matters worse, the acid also splashes on your daughter.

To add to your stress, you're forced to flee your home to a foreign country and struggle to survive and recover.

This is what happened to Nafisa and she needs our help.

We wrote you a few weeks ago as we began to help Nafisa and her family. OFWI donors stepped up right away with over $2,000 in donations. This will help her family with living expenses in Turkey as they are unable to work.

We have a plan and we need your help spreading the word. That is why we have started a GoFundMe campaign to help Nafisa.

We need to raise $125,000 to cover the medical expenses for Nafisa to recover, provide support while her family is stuck in Turkey and unable to work, and facilitate the refugee sponsorship process.

The GoFundMe campaign includes a breakdown of this campaign. I want to be honest, it won't be quick and the whole process could take over 2 years.

Here are the funds we need to help Nafisa:

  • $60,000 for living and medical expenses in Turkey where she and her family are currently based.

  • $40,000 for refugee sponsorship

  • $20,000 for international air travel to Canada.

  • $5,000 for legal and administrative costs.

Can you help us with a strong start to this GoFundMeCampaign? You can visit https://www.gofundme.com/saving-nafisa to contribute.

Thank you for taking the time to read my email. We will have more to share in the weeks ahead.

Sincerely,
Rev. Majed El Shafie
